The spelling is the dogs' doing. Inside, a Dalmatian has already claimed the name box.

An A5 notebook with a dog pun on the cover. Forty blank pages for lists, plans, and ideas, some of them good.

TypeAlive is a small design studio in Münster, Germany. The cover is thick natural card, the corners are rounded, and the staple binding lets it lie flat. The illustration carries on across the back cover, and there's more inside.

It's an easy gift for a dog person you don't know very well. Which is most of them.

Why We Love This Brand

Drawn by hand in Münster.

Most gifts for cat and dog people are the same few jokes printed on whatever is cheapest. A paw print on a mug. "Dog mom" on a tote.

TypeAlive is a small graphic design studio in Münster, Germany. Their illustrations start with pen and paper: a cat in sunglasses, dogs in sweaters, and a dachshund long enough to need three lines.

The printing stays close to home. Their cards are printed regionally on Römerturm, a German fine paper, and the notebooks are made in Germany on natural paper. The totes are screen printed on certified cotton. The pins are gold-plated brass.

A section for the humans was always part of the plan. We wanted gifts that felt contemporary, a little quirky, and made in Europe. TypeAlive got all three right.

We picked the way we'd pick a card for a friend. If we wouldn't send it, it didn't make the shelf.
